Arborist, Tree Surgeon and 

Veteran Tree Climber 

Jon's Tree Service, LLC Owner

Born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, Jon brings over 20 years of experience running a chainsaw and climbing trees. Starting in his teen years, he worked with several tree companies, clearing trees and overhanging branches for power lines. He learned how to climb and quickly became a very skilled climber, being asked to train others. In his career working for large tree companies, he progressed from a groundman to a tree climber and finally a foreman. As a foreman, he is the expert climber on the crew and continued  to train others in the craft. During his 20 years, he worked on power lines for Green Mountain Power, Vermont Electric Cooperative, Barton Electric, Orleans Electric, Morrisville Electric and Washington Electric, all throughout Vermont. 

In 2019, Jon started his own business on the side, Jon’s Tree Service, focusing on residential work and specializing in dangerous or hazardous trees hanging over power lines and structures. He offered storm clean up, prevention work before a storm caused damage and maintaining the health of trees by dead wooding them. During that time, he continued to work power lines during the week, growing his business on weekends and evenings. 

In January of 2023, Jon’s Tree Service became a Limited Liability Company and continues to grow as Jon works with his own crew, focusing on keeping people and homes safe from dying or dangerous trees. He brings his 20 years of experience and the reputation of one of the safest and most skilled climbers in Vermont to your home and projects!

When he has time to put down his chainsaw, he enjoys outdoor life in the NEK bow and rifle hunting, snowboarding, fishing, hiking, spending time with his dog, Maple and time with his family and daughter, Kaylee. 

Business Manager

Thyra entered the tree business in 2021, after Jon came and cut a dying maple tree hanging over her home. She has quickly learned that although getting this small tree company and small business off and running is a lot of work, it is a challenge worth taking on. She does “behind the scenes” work including advertising, working with our bookkeeper, responding to inquiries when Jon is in the trees, invoicing, etc. 

When she is available, you may meet her out in the field working alongside Jon. She may be running ropes for him, lowering limbs safely to the ground, dragging brush or loading the trailer and chipping. 

Thyra is a veteran teacher, working for 20 years at Newport City Elementary School. In her free time, she works to keep Jon’s Tree Service, LLC running and growing as a local, small business. She also enjoys skiing, hiking, gardening, snowshoeing, walks with her dog and time with her family and adventures with her daughter, Bryn. 

Chris Kingston, Groundman

Chris is Jon's right hand man on most, if not all  jobs. He works  hard to keep up with the brush piles under Jon when Jon is climbing, is experienced with roping limbs and pulling trees over and is learning the tree service trade. An avid fisherman, in his time off he can be found on the water or the ice! 

Kaden, Groundman

Kaden joins us from North Country High School's forestry program where he learned ow to safely run a chainsaw and learned many other skills needed to work alongside Jon. Completing high school requirements a year early, he is able to join our team a few days a week or as needed on some of our bigger projects.  

Andy, Climber and Groundman

Andy brings many years of experience as a fellow climber and tree cutter on power lines and in residential work. If your projects needs a second climber, Andy will join us on the project.

Other Teammates

We contract with Desrochers Crane Service when needed. We also contract with other tree companies if we need a larger team to complete your project in a timely manner. 

 We are in the business of trees and are grateful to have a community of small businesses we get to support incase you are seeking something different than what we offer!
